Program Introduction
United Kinder applies the Ontario curriculum – a comprehensive, inquiry-based program from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
The Ontario curriculum is built upon the Montessori approach and STEAM education. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics – both methods are currently applied to different school years at United Kinder Bilingual Kindergarten.
At UNITED KINDER, STEAM projects together with physical activities are organized throughout the school year, playing an important role in nurturing critical thinking, developing physical well-being, and cultivating well-rounded life skills for children.
All children who complete their academic years at United Kinder are officially registered with WECDSB in Canada and receive an international student registration number issued by WECDSB and WEDC – an excellent preparation to continue their studies in Canada or at international schools.
7 Goals of United Kinder
-
View each child as an Active Learner.
-
Build an integrated educational program for children.
-
Implement a joy-based learning approach.
-
Teachers work alongside children to unlock their potential as Active Learners.
-
Provide a safe, healthy, diverse learning environment that embraces nature.
-
Build strong connections among all relationships in the child’s worldview – teachers, family, and community.
-
UNITED KINDER believes that every child is a unique masterpiece.
To achieve these goals, UNITED KINDER applies the Four Frameworks: play-based learning, inquiry-based learning, learning centers, and project-based learning.
Play-Based Learning
Play is the most natural and effective way for children to learn. Through play, children explore the world around them, develop physically, practice independent thinking, and build social skills.
Inquiry-Based Learning
Inquiry-based learning focuses on children’s questions, ideas, and curiosity through experiential learning. This approach increases engagement, which means children learn more effectively.
Learning Centers
A learning center is a designated area in the classroom that provides engaging, hands-on experiences to enrich, reinforce, and extend learning.
It also allows teachers to spend time with individual children or small groups, giving them a more personalized learning experience.
Project-Based Learning
At United Kinder, children are encouraged to seek answers to “big questions” about the real world through projects that integrate multiple areas of learning.
These projects take place over an extended period, helping children not only acquire knowledge but also strengthen their skills and confidently present their results to a real audience.
